As the tables fold on another successful RC Show, we have to say 2023 was the best one yet. We had the pleasure of meeting some amazing people, checked out the latest and greatest from fellow businesses and, best of all, we got to give booth attendees a taste of the perfect pairing for their business. Literally.
Featuring three of our amazing Partners — Rudy, Grandma Loves You, and Egg Club — we invited booth attendees to come in and enjoy the Daily Dish. Each day, one of the featured Partners would serve up their signature dish to serve to booth visitors. They also talked about the many benefits of a Skip partnership, like Skip Scores, Promos, Alcohol Stacking, and more. If you missed it, here’s a little taste from these beloved Toronto eateries (but also, go order an actual taste of what you missed. They’re all incredible).
Day 1 Partner – Rudy
A simple, yet irresistible burger joint with 5 locations across Toronto (flagship shop in Little Italy).
When did you open? “Back almost 7 years ago, we opened on College Street during a taste of Little Italy. We did the burger with just a special sauce, tomato, lettuce, and cheese. We thought no one was doing the kind of burger we were doing at the time.”
What’s on the menu?
“We keep the menu very short, featuring our classic with a few variations. We’ve got the poutine, obviously, because we’re a Canadian brand. And we spent some time in Quebec to try to make it as authentic as possible.”
When did you start with Skip?
“We got introduced to Skip when we opened our Queensway location in 2018.”
How has your experience been so far?
“It was a good fit right away. Skip really took off at the Queensway. It might be our best performer out there. Once you get a little outside the downtown core, Skip has a lot more traction. That was a real eye-opener for us as we were considering expansion outside of the GTA.”
What makes Skip the perfect pairing for your business?
“Skip’s been a great partner. They’ve been very accessible, reaching out and getting us to do stuff like this. I think Skip’s marketing is great, it’s fun and cool. It’s what we’re trying to do — keep it fun, keep it light. It’s nice to see a great Canadian company in the mix.”
Any advice for your fellow restaurateurs?
“There’s lots to figure out along the way. You’re going to make mistakes, we certainly did, but that’s just part of growth.”
Day 2 Partner – Grandma Loves You
A European eatery with two locations in Toronto, specializing in larger-than-life sandwiches and one-of-a-kind hotdogs.
When did you open?
“We came from Germany in 2019 and the idea was to have a convenience store-with-food business.”
What’s on the menu?
“We started with homemade cakes. Then, as Covid hit, we switched to just sandwiches — no more convenience stores, no more homemade cakes (people were baking at home) because the sandwiches got popular.”
When did you start with Skip?
“Right away. My first delivery partner was Skip.”
How has your experience been so far?
“Honestly, half of the business is delivery. Me and Sarah are very appreciative. Without delivery partners, we wouldn’t be where we are. And there are customers coming from everywhere ordering with Skip. I’m happy Skip is there helping us.”
Any advice for your fellow restaurateurs?
“Don’t change the quality. Stick with it. We buy expensive stuff, and we don’t change the prices. Customer service is one of the most important parts of our business. People remember — if they eat the sandwich, then have it again the second time and nothing changes, they come back. If you stick with the quality, people are going to stick with you.”
Day 3 Partner – Egg Club
A delicious egg-ery specializing in decked-out sandwiches with four locations scattered around Toronto’s main core (and hopes to open nationally).
When did you open?
“We founded this concept of Egg Club in 2020 and, in 2023, we opened our fourth location. We are about to open 3-4 more locations this year.”
What’s on the menu?
“Extremely affordable egg sandwiches made with Japanese milk bread. We were the first ones to mainstream it. And we also make our own special sauce.”
When did you start with Skip?
“Right away. Skip really helped us a lot during Covid times. We really needed the support.”
How has your experience been so far?
“Skip has always been incredibly supportive. Brandon (our Account Manager) is amazing. It comes down to how much we like the person. That’s what you guys brought to the table.”
What makes Skip the perfect pairing for your business?
“Skip has always been different from other delivery platforms. Skip is the only one where Account Managers always contact us and ask if everything is going well. They’re constantly checking up on how well we’re doing and, if we’re not doing well, they put their time into analyzing numbers and letting us know what we can do to bring more sales in. I’m most grateful for the marketing campaigns.”
Any advice for your fellow restaurateurs?
“Get on Skip. Skip is the best. It’s the only company that respects small merchants and they’re always willing to help us with our partnership.”
Over the course of the show’s three days, 1000+ Daily Dishes were served to very happy booth attendees. A huge thank you to our amazing Partners for all their support — we couldn’t have done it without you. Until next year!
