As a restaurant owner, you know that when dine-in customers have wine, beer, or other spirits* with their meals, it means a higher bill. Well, the same holds true when they’re ordering takeout. In fact, orders with food and alcohol have an average 83% higher ticket size than orders with food only.
Food delivery services, like Skip, have played a big part in keeping homebound Canadians well fed during the pandemic. And now, we can help easily add alcohol menu items to their orders as well.
NOW ADDING ALCOHOL IS EASIER
Until now, Skip partners that offer alcohol on our platform have had to contact Skip’s support team to add or modify alcohol items to the menu. But not anymore!
In order to increase our self-serve offerings to you and decrease the time you spend emailing or calling Skip’s support team for these requests, we’ve added a handy new feature that lets you easily add legally compliant alcohol menu items using the Menu Self-Serve (MSS). How about that!
HOW EASY IS IT?
Pretty easy! Check out these short videos for a quick tutorial:
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Here’s a simple step-to-step guide to getting going:
1. Connect with your territory manager to provide your liquor license number.
2. They will then generate the provincial “Docusign” agreement for you to sign and submit.
3. Then you’re ready to go! You can start adding and editing your menu using the MSS tool in the portal.
*NEW* All restaurants with access to MSS can now auto-publish, which means your menu will go live as soon as you hit “publish.”
4. Don’t forget to set the item tax category as “alcohol” in the MSS tool. Once you do, you will have to also fill in the Alcohol by Volume (ABV), Size Description, and Quantity fields.
A NOTE ON AGE VERIFICATION
To ensure all legal compliance, we have set up an Age Verification Disclaimer that is automatically applied on the menu to your customers.
ERROR MESSAGE? NO PROB
Since there was no standard way to display Alcohol Items on the menu before, you may receive error/fail messages the first time you try to edit your menu. Here’s a quick video on how to remedy it:
HOURS OF AVAILABILITY VALIDATION
Validation allows you to set the time availability of your alcohol item/categories only during Skip Alcohol Courier availability hours. Since alcohol can only be served and delivered at certain hours throughout the day, you will have to set your time (based on your own hours and legislation in your province).
Here’s a quick how-to for setting time availability:
CHEERS TO INCREASED SALES
Now you should be ready to go—and ready to see your average ticket size increase! If you have more questions about this new feature, please contact your territory manager or use the “Message Us” feature in the Portal.
*As they vary from province to province, please refer to liquor regulations in your area
