With the cost of most things on the rise, it’s quite refreshing to meet a business that prides itself on providing “affordable happiness.” Enter Toronto’s own Egg Club, a restaurant that believes in the notion so much, that they’ve even made it their tagline.
Their renowned egg sandwiches are definitely something to call home about. With fillings like smoked sausage, thick-cut bacon, and lobster, it’s not hard to see what all the fuss is about. And don’t even get us started on the bread (more on that later).
We sat down with our proud Skip Partner to find out more about this tasty little sandwich shop.
How it started.
Back in 2018, three ambitious friends — Jason, Jun, and Tim — were together in a pricey Toronto restaurant when they got a hefty bill. That’s when they asked themselves, “Why does everyone have to be rich to deserve great service and food?” says Tim.
Fast-forward a couple years later to September 2020, right in the middle of the pandemic. They opened the first Egg Club so they could provide delicious, quality food at a reasonable price. Today, they have four locations in the heart of the city, and Skip has been working with them pretty much from the beginning.
What’s it like working with Skip?
Tim: Unlike other platforms, Skip knows how to take care of their merchant partners. They spend a lot of time and money building relationships, always discussing what we can do better together, how we can build better relationships with our customers, and how to make more revenue.
Now, let’s talk about that menu.
Inspired by egg sandwiches in Japan, it starts with the softest, fluffiest Japanese milk bread and comes together with folded eggs, house-made sauces, and gourmet toppings.
So what kinda toppings are we talkin’ here? One of their most popular is the BLT, made with thick-cut bacon, lettuce, tomato, creamy chili sauce, and Egg Club sauce. Another fave is the Meat Lovers, packed with smoked sausage, thick-cut bacon, chipotle mayo, and Egg Club sauce. For those who like their sandwich on the lighter side, they have a couple great meat-free options, like their Guacamolic (featuring, you guessed it, guacamole) and The Classic, with simply egg, chili sauce, parsley, and house sauce. The best part? These hearty sandwiches are large, filling, and come in at under $10, making them quite the popular choice among students and thrift-seekers alike.
What’s next for this tasty place?
Needing only a footprint of about 500 square feet to operate, the owners of Egg Club can set up shop just about anywhere – and they have some pretty grand goals for the future. “Right now, our focus is to open as many stores as possible to spread affordable happiness. We have an organized timeline to open 300 locations in 10 years,” says Tim.
In the meantime, we highly suggest checking them out in the Skip app to give this must-try sandwich a go. No matter which one you choose, you will not be disappointed.
